Diabetic supplies allowed on airplanes?

Okay, I'm a diabetic flying for my first time tomorrow morning and need a little advice on how to pack my syringes and short needles for my insulin pens. I ume they would be allowed in a checked bag, but I'm afraid my luggage might get lost. How do diabetics do this?
