Is Blu-Ray going to replace normal DVDs?

I want to buy a camcorder and I was think about geting the Hitachi HD that records on to a blu-ray disc. I don't want to get it if the blu-ray is gonna go out of style like the Laser disc. Let me know what you think and if you have any HD camcorder suggestions. THANKS
